privacy in 2019

https://techcrunch.com/2019/02/06/iphone-session-replay-screenshots/

Mobile apps are recording all user actions and screenshoots using technology from
https://www.glassboxdigital.com/ & https://www.appsee.com/

They are not forthright in informing the customers. The record/replay technology providers don't require of their customer to inform the customers. OS platform companies don't ban this capture, as technology.

Well, welcome to 2019

Following law is costly

Following all the laws all the time is too expensive. To save some time/money/resource, people/companies/governments break them from time to time. Few of the law breaking incidents are caught and fewer of them are punished.

NSA surveillance...

Just because you can do some thing, there are situations why it might not be a good idea to do it.

US government NSA surveillance....

NSA provides backup (snooping) service to most technology companies in the US. So, other governments, like Brazil, are considering to demand international companies keep their citizens data with in their country - not move it out.

Government Settles on my behalf?

  1. UBS to Pay $1.5 Billion to Settle Libor Charges
  2. Morgan Stanley Coughs Up $5 Million in Facebook Settlement
  3. Standard Chartered Bank has agreed to pay $327 million to settle federal and New York charges it laundered money on behalf of four countries that were subject to U.S. economic sanctions from 2001 through 2007.
  4. HSBC settles US money laundering case for $1.9B

In what way does it really help me? Is this my wish? Am I truly compensated? Looks like the Government is helping the lawyers get their money (pension?). May be some ego/promotion of government official is met...

China subsidy vs US subsidy

The US government complained to ITO and imposed tariffs on Chinese products imported to the US.

The US federal government offers various subsidies, including farm subsidies for goods end up getting exported. Also, various state, county and city governments provide various subsidies like tax holidays, free land to attract large companies to relocate to their region.

Don't understand the logic - other than calling it double standard.

I am sure they care for copy protection... Or, did they give up any copy protection after the iPad fight with China?

can't call directly from Android OneNote

Downloaded OneNote Android today (2012/02/28) on receiving promotion mail from hotmail.
  1. I can not insert a method to call a number in notes. tel: protocol does not work.
  2. On web interface there is no way to insert check boxes.
Is this just poor selection of feature set by Microsoft? makes me wonder, is this what Apple & Google do it just right for them to be doing well in the past 10 years...

Megaupload <> roads

Why should we not sue the owners of 'roads & streets' for allowing bad people drive/walk on them doing bad things? This sounds comparable to the reasoning by Justice department indicted Vestor Limited

list of names part of 1%

As my contribution to occupy wall street movement, I want to collect the list of people who belong to the 1%. This list is going to be 3,125,380 (3M+). Well, that's a tall order to meet. We should give it a try - why not!! Who knows what we will see/get..

Couple of places to compile from
  1. Forbes list (potentially, Copyrighted material)
  2. sec filings
  3. How about property list (Zillow?)
  4. Political Campaign contributions

Bells and whistles:
  1. May be provide a wiki style for people to add/edit?
  2. Looks at what is spent (how about list of expenses - especially that huge for ordinary things)
  3. How to maintain this list as information changes. Can this change on a day to day basis when share market moves around?
  4. Why limit to US - why not expand to world wide
  5. How to differentiate family wealth from individual wealth
  6. How to differentiate office spending on wealthy individuals - as compared to personal spending (Example: President of the US & President of Exon fly to places with whole bunch of people with them. Do we include this trip in their personal income?)
