Magic Qquare

This is completed wish as of May 27, 2005.

Wiki seems to have comprehensive info on Magic Square. I need to ensure I get the Dasavadani Ramiah's 4x4 magic square that can solve for all numbers above 34 (35, 36 & 37 are OK too). Even number of squares, singly even, doublly even. How many ways of we can solve for x number of squares.
Mention about Magic Cubes as well.
Ramiah square?? {1,5,12,16}{15,11,6,2}{10,4,13,7}{8,14,3,9}

8 Queen on Chess board solution

There are many ways by which you can place 8 queens in such a way that no queen can kill another queen.
I will enter this placement later.

Quick & Practical Quadratic solution

There is an anciant tamil poem / rule.
7/8length + 1/2 height = hypoteneous
This is a perfect match for 2 quadratic ratio sets.
I will plot the error values and it's proof along with it's graph.
I want to put the odia neelanthanai in Tamil on blogspot site.

Large Data / Transactions

Here are some of the large number of transactions..
1. Visa (Plastic Card payment system)
2. NYSE - the stock trading
3. Spam (emails)
4. Computer Generated (and converted) Imagary
5. Gegraphic Information Systems

Quality - 2 schools of thought

My 2 cents on Quality.

Extract from wiki .
Approches to Quality (focused on software here).

  1. Measure defects and take corrective action. "Test Quality"
  2. "Design Quality" a more organic approch.

When groups (compaines/projects) are in infancy the quality approch is more like the former - where every one can easily see statistical numbers in terms of bugs found/fixed. This is costly process which includes bug administration cost. This also makes 'people' to look for low hanging fruits (bugs) to claim numbers very good for performance reviews. I used to call finding bugs in software as finding the imperfections in old shirt - looking for oerfections or imperfections. Cost of bug fixing ever day / step later costs exponentially more than if it was not found/fixed earlier. I have known (failing?) projects where coding begins way prior to the coder understanding the requirement. Later, the requirements are adjusted to meet the code. Hey, that's a great way to listen to customer!!

More organized and mature companies (management and the culture as a whole) belive and follow the later process. The product is done right first time and every time. The process (and individual performance review) is based on finding issues (bugs) as earlier in the cycle. Importance is given to issues found/fixed that pose high risk on the project and for the customer.

Curious Question on DNA

DNA is unique for individuals. Fine and agreed. What happens to DNA when organs (Heart/Kidney/Eye) or Blood/bone marrow is transplanted from another person? What is the deal when the transplantation takes place between species?

Cygwin

Cygwin is a Unix-like environment for Windows. cygwin1.dll is API emulation layer and a whole range of tools to give extensive unix (Linux) like support.
Cygwin can not run Unix/Linux binaries under Windows. Rebuild is required. This is open source and is supported by RedHat.

http transaction

xmlHttp is a cool way of automation either in command line or to be run over web Browser (IE/Netscape). I did not know how to make it work on firefox yet.
xmlHttml can be used under Javascript or VB script and run under wscript or jscript
This can also be loaded in other programming languages.

Wiki

I read about wiki recently. I am excited about this concept. This is closely simillar to Encyclopedia and the major differance is that it is kind of like open source. I want to see if I can make a personal wiki that is more like a quick encyclopedia of personal knowledge based.

Passport

Nice dream.
Country is purely a political system. It is very recent concept for human race. If I were to give up my passport issued from the country of origin to erase the political boundaries, I would. Don't know how this can happen or how we can make this happen.

Alternately, as a life mission, can I get citizenship of as many countries as possible.

Interview Questions

1. What is the best algorithm to reverse string preserving words in correct order. Example input string "This is a test" output string "test a is This"
2. Two robots having limitted vocablary running the same program got to seek each other. Vocablary: step left/right one/two step. Was this position already traversed?
3. Test cases for unix 'ls' command.
